The exhibit Jack London dans les mers du Sud (Jack London in the South Seas) will run from September 8, 2017 to January 7, 2018 at the Centre de la Vieille Charite in Marseille, France.

Jack London dans les mers du Sud is wholly dedicated to the cruise of the Snark and will feature approximately 100 pieces of ocean art from European museums and the California Parks’ collections, as well as hundreds of photographic reproductions, early book editions, and a new model of the Snark. The exhibit will also showcase video archives from Hawaii, the New Hebrides, and the Solomon Islands. In addition, historical items including the Snark’s barometer, bell, and navigation notes will be on display.

Michel Viotte, director of the documentary Jack London, An American Adventure, will curate the exhibit with Marianne Pourtal Sourrieu, director of MAOOA—the Museum of African, Oceanian and American Arts. The exhibit provides a beautiful occasion to celebrate the Jack London’s adventurous spirit (as well as Charmian’s) and help the French public to learn more about his encounters with the Pacific islanders and the diversity of their cultures.
