Wayne S. and Peggy Martin Collection of Jack London Materials to be sold
On June 25, 2015, PBA Galleries will be offering at auction the Jack London
collection formed by the late Wayne S. Martin of Santa Rosa, California.
Wayne and his wife Peggy were active and early supporters of the Jack
London Foundation and the Jack London Society, and passionate collectors of
London’s work, as well as close friends of the late Becky London, Russ
Kingman and Milo Shepard, from whom they obtained many items. The
collection, one of the last great collections in private hands, was formed
over the last 45 years. Items to be offered include all the first editions,
many inscribed and/or in jackets, variant issues and bindings, his wife
Charmian’s own books inscribed, rare ephemera, early appearances including
his High School literary magazine The Aegis, photographs, typescripts,
manuscripts and many letters, including his correspondence concerning his
growing of Eucalyptus trees in California. A rare item of great interest is
the diary kept on his South Seas voyage on the Snark, by his private valet
and companion Yoshimatsu Nakata, handwritten written in both English and
Japanese. Many of the items had been loaned to the Huntington Library for
their monumental exhibition in 1998-9, The Wisdom Of The Trail, Jack London
Author and Adventurer. The catalogue will be posted on our website
www.pbagalleries.com a few weeks prior to the sale
Hi,
Does anyone know the Jack London book where a young Indian chief chases after the adventurer who forcibly took his wife?
